I'm not sure if it’s just me, but lately my TikTok feed feels like 2019 all over again. Every video that pops up is super short, like 10, 15 seconds tops. I swear I barely see any of those 1-minute story vids anymore.

And here’s the weird part, my short clips are doing way better too. I posted this 12-second random reaction last week, nothing serious, and boom, 10k views. Then I upload a proper 50-second video that took me hours to edit, I barely hits 1k. 😅

So yeah, I’m starting to think the TikTok algorithm 2025 is back to favoring short content again.

Feels Like It’s All About Quick Hits Again

People’s attention span on TikTok keeps shrinking. I’ve noticed even I don’t watch full videos anymore and if it doesn’t grab me in the first few seconds, I’m gone.

The shorter vids are easier to rewatch, loop, and share. So TikTok probably sees that and goes, “Oh nice, this one keeps people scrolling!”

I kinda miss when longer storytelling worked, though. Like remember those one-minute cooking vids or travel clips that used to pop off? Now, unless it’s snappy, TikTok just buries it.

Anyone else seeing the same? Or maybe it’s just certain niches?

My Little Experiment

Out of curiosity, I tried testing it myself. I posted two clips, one was 14 seconds, just a funny outtake. The other was a 47-second “behind the scenes” thing. Both dropped around the same time, same hashtags.

The short one hit over 5x more views. It got saved and replayed like crazy. The longer one got almost nothing.

I’ve seen a few creators on Reddit mention the same pattern. Feels like TikTok’s back to pushing those “watch till the end” loops that boost retention.

If that’s the case, smaller creators might actually benefit. It's easier to make short stuff than long ones.

But It’s Kinda Frustrating Too

Like, don’t get me wrong, I love quick edits. But it’s frustrating when your longer, thoughtful videos don’t even reach your followers. TikTok says “create quality content,” but then promotes the ones you filmed half asleep 😅

For small creators, it’s confusing. Are we supposed to tell stories or just throw out 10-second clips non-stop?

I’ve been thinking of mixing both: one short post daily for reach, then a slightly longer one once or twice a week. Seems like a decent balance.

Anyone else tried that?

TikTok’s 2025 Algorithm Vibes

From everything I’ve seen (and tested), TikTok this year feels like it’s rewarding:
  • Fast hooks — first 2 seconds matter the most.
  • Replays — short videos loop more easily.
  • Early likes/comments — engagement within the first hour seems key.
That explains why we’re seeing those funny “blink and it’s over” videos blow up again. People finish them, TikTok counts it as full watch time, and boom, it gets pushed.

I feel like the algorithm’s more about retention and looping now, not length or production.

Some Quick Tips That Are Working for Me

I’m not an expert, but here’s what I’ve been doing since I noticed the change:
  • Keeping most clips under 20 seconds.
  • Adding captions or quick text on screen (seems to help).
  • Using trending sounds even if it’s just background noise.
  • Posting more often instead of trying to make one perfect video.
And honestly? It’s been helping. My reach is way better now. I gained like 600 followers this month just by staying consistent.

Final Thoughts

Anyway, I might be wrong, but TikTok definitely feels like it’s back to rewarding short, scrollable stuff. Maybe it’s because of competition with YouTube Shorts, or maybe it’s just user behavior.

Either way, if you’re a small creator, I’d say don’t fight it — adapt to it. Make it fun. Use quick edits, add energy, and don’t overthink perfection.

Short and real is winning again in 2025.

Anyone else testing this too? Drop your results below — curious to see if it’s just me or everyone’s noticing this shift.

Lol, I thought it was just my account acting weird 😅 My short silly vids are flying lately but longer ones just flop. It’s kinda sad because I like storytelling, but you’re right, TikTok wants fast stuff.

We are in the same boat bro, I losted a 10-sec clip fixing my camera settings, boom, 20k views. Then I drop a 1-min tutorial and it dies in the algorithm. I think short and snappy is the move this year for sure.
