I'm confused about hashtag strategy on linkedin and twitter. some people say use them, some say they're useless now
What's actually working in 2025? should i be using hashtags or not?

Re: Should I use hashtags on LinkedIn and Twitter?
hashtag strategy is different for each platform:
TWITTER:
- use 1-2 hashtags max, or none at all
- twitter's algorithm understands your content without hashtags
- too many hashtags looks spammy and hurts engagement
- only use hashtags if there's a relevant trending topic
LINKEDIN:
- use 3-5 relevant hashtags
- linkedin hashtags actually work for discoverability
- people follow hashtags on linkedin so it helps you get found
- use a mix of broad and niche hashtags
my linkedin hashtag strategy:
- 1-2 broad industry hashtags (#marketing #technology)
- 2-3 specific niche hashtags (#contentmarketing #saas)
my twitter hashtag strategy:
- 90% of my tweets have zero hashtags
- only use hashtags when jumping on trending conversations
the platforms work differently. linkedin's search and discovery is hashtag-based. twitter's algorithm doesn't need hashtags to categorize your content
test it yourself. track engagement on posts with vs without hashtags on each platform

Re: Should I use hashtags on LinkedIn and Twitter?
I stopped using hashtags on both platforms and saw no decrease in reach. If anything, engagement improved slightly
here's why hashtags don't matter much anymore:
TWITTER:
- algorithm is sophisticated enough to understand context without hashtags
- hashtags make tweets look less natural and authentic
- nobody actually searches hashtags on twitter anymore (they use keyword search)
LINKEDIN:
- most engagement comes from your network, not hashtag discovery
- linkedin shows your posts to your connections first, hashtags are secondary
- posts without hashtags look cleaner and more professional
when i used 5 hashtags on linkedin:
- average reach: 1,200
- average engagement: 25 likes, 3 comments
when i stopped using hashtags:
- average reach: 1,500
- average engagement: 35 likes, 6 comments
my theory: posts without hashtags look more authentic and less like you're trying to game the algorithm
