I started my blog 2 months ago and I've published 15 articles. i'm getting basically zero traffic from google search right now (maybe 5-10 visits per day)
How long does it actually take for a new blog to start ranking and getting organic traffic? Should I be worried or is 2 months too early to expect results?

While long-term growth takes time, you
can get traffic faster by being strategic
I got to 500 visitors per day in 4 months by targeting the right keywords. Here's how:
strategies for faster results:
- target low competition keywords - don't go after "best protein powder" (impossible), target "best protein powder for teens with lactose intolerance" (very specific)
- use pinterest - can drive traffic immediately while waiting for google. i get 300 visitors per day from pinterest
- answer specific questions - target "how to" queries that don't have good answers yet
- write comprehensive content - 2000+ words that fully answer the question
the "wait 12-18 months" advice assumes you're targeting competitive keywords. if you're smart about keyword selection, you can rank in 2-4 months for some terms
tools i use for finding quick-win keywords:
- answerthepublic.com (free)
- google "people also ask" section
- keyword research tools like ubersuggest (has free tier)
don't just wait passively. be strategic about what you write and you can see results much faster than 12 months

2 months is
way too early to expect significant google traffic. here's the realistic timeline:
typical blog traffic progression:
- months 0-3: basically zero traffic (google is still discovering and indexing your content)
- months 3-6: very slow trickle starts (maybe 50-100 visitors per day)
- months 6-12: gradual growth if content is good (200-500 visitors per day)
- months 12-18: this is when real growth happens (1000+ visitors per day possible)
my personal experience:
- month 2: 8 visitors per day (where you are now)
- month 6: 45 visitors per day
- month 12: 380 visitors per day
- month 18: 1,200 visitors per day
- month 24: 3,500 visitors per day
Google needs time to trust new websites. this is called the "sandbox effect" - new sites don't rank well even with good content
what you should focus on right now:
- keep publishing quality content consistently
- build backlinks from other websites
- optimize your existing articles
- be patient and don't give up
the blogs that fail are the ones that quit at month 3-6 when they're not seeing results yet. stick with it for at least 12 months before judging if it's working
