I'm trying to decide whether to focus on linkedin or twitter for building my personal brand. i work in tech/software development and i'm not sure which platform makes more sense

linkedin seems more professional but twitter seems more active and engaging. what's been your experience?

If you're in tech/software dev, linkedin is way more valuable for career growth and making money

here's why i chose linkedin:
- people on linkedin are there for professional networking and opportunities
- way easier to get clients, job offers, and partnerships
- less noise and competition compared to twitter
- posts have longer lifespan (my posts get engagement for days, twitter is only a few hours)
- better for establishing expertise and authority

my linkedin stats after 8 months:
- 8,500 followers
- 3 consulting clients from DMs ($25k total)
- 2 job offers
- multiple speaking opportunities

my twitter after 8 months:
- 12,000 followers
- 0 direct opportunities
- lots of engagement but no real business value

twitter is great for community and staying up to date with news. linkedin is great for actual professional opportunities

for tech specifically, linkedin is where decision makers and hiring managers are. twitter is where other developers hang out and argue about frameworks

start with linkedin if your goal is career/business growth. use twitter as a secondary platform for fun

I’m going to completely disagree and say twitter is way better for building a real personal brand

linkedin is full of performative corporate posts and fake hustle culture. twitter is where actual conversations happen and real communities form

advantages of twitter:
- people are more authentic and less "corporate"
- easier to go viral and reach large audiences
- better for building genuine relationships with people in your industry
- the developer community on twitter is massive and super supportive

i've gotten freelance work, made actual friends, and learned more from twitter than i ever did on linkedin

linkedin feels like everyone is trying to sell you something or flex their achievements. twitter feels like real people sharing real thoughts

for tech/software specifically, tech twitter is where all the interesting discussions happen. new tools get discovered on twitter first. communities form around twitter, not linkedin

my recommendation: be active on both but twitter should be your priority for community building. use linkedin to occasionally post your wins and stay visible to recruiters

twitter for building your brand and network, linkedin for capitalizing on opportunities
