How to stand out when everyone is creating similar content?

Post by Angela »

I'm in the personal finance niche and I feel like I'm saying the same things as thousands of other creators. budgeting, saving, investing... it's all been done a million times

How do you differentiate yourself when your niche is saturated? i don't want to just be another generic finance creator but i also don't know what unique angle to take

Unpopular opinion: you don't need a unique angle, you just need to be better than everyone else

most content in every niche is mediocre. if you create genuinely helpful, well-researched, clearly explained content, you'll stand out automatically

I'm in personal finance and i've grown to 40k followers by just making really GOOD content. not unique angles, not flashy personality, just comprehensive valuable information presented clearly

what makes my content better:
- i spend 8-10 hours on each piece of content (most people spend 2)
- i cite sources and show receipts
- i break down complex topics into simple explanations
- my production quality is higher (better audio, editing, visuals)

people are desperate for content that actually helps them, not just surface level tips they've heard before. go deeper than everyone else. provide more value. be more thorough

"stand out" by being the best resource in your niche, not by having a gimmick

focus less on being different and more on being excellent

The answer isn't WHAT you say, it's HOW you say it and WHO you are

personal finance advice is the same because the fundamentals don't change. but YOUR story, YOUR personality, YOUR perspective is unique

Ways to stand out in a saturated niche:
1. inject your personality - are you funny? sarcastic? super analytical? let that show
2. target a specific subset - "personal finance for freelancers" or "money tips for single parents" instead of general audience
3. use a unique format - maybe you use storytelling, or data visualizations, or interviews
4. be radically transparent - share your actual numbers, mistakes, real life situations
5. take controversial stances - challenge common advice if you genuinely disagree

i'm in fitness (also super saturated) and i stand out by being the "realistic fitness person who hates gym culture." that angle attracts people who are turned off by traditional fitness content

look at what everyone else in your niche is doing, then do the opposite. if everyone is super professional and polished, be casual and raw. if everyone is showing success, show your failures and lessons learned

your unique angle is usually found at the intersection of your personality + your specific experience + your target audience's specific problem
